Duties and Responsibilities:
· Responsible for resolving application database issues, upgrades and maintenance for installed base.
· Responsible for database performance tuning, resolving database capacity issues, replication, and any distributed data issues for installed base.
· Responsible for working with the development team to design and develop physical data models and schemas for projects and on-going application enhancements. Writes and executes stored procedures, triggers, and complex cursors. Ensures data integrity, security and performance through review of physical data models against application processing and architectural designs. Ensures that data access methods, database kernel patches, etc. are kept current.
· Responsible for leading and performing database-related testing in conjunction with other application testing efforts. Support development efforts, including consulting on the design and execution of all database related design elements.
· Reverse-engineer existing databases to optimize for performance and data management.
· Contribute to projects, enhancements and conversions by writing and maintaining procedures, functions, and packages.
· Develop a system for gathering database performance metrics. Using these metrics, develop a plan to ensure that database systems are correctly configured for optimal performance.
· Recommends improvements to or replacement of application databases, data processes and data modeling tools.
· Develops and implements standards/work procedures for database maintenance (including backup and recovery) and configuration.
· Manage and/or participate in implementation of database system tuning, to ensure optimal performance. Creates work procedures to ensure that database systems are adequately monitored including creates scripts that can be used by service team/installed base.
· Responsible for putting any created tools, scripts, etc. into the configuration management system. Assists in creation of training material and provides any necessary training to end-users.
· Responsible for working on assigned change requests/defects. For assigned defects, provides accurate root-cause analysis and provides impact analysis to QA.
· Constantly keeps up with software/system technology changes in the industry and provides ideas for product improvement/evolution/revolution.
· Responsible for doing development and support while complying with various product development processes and QSRs.
· Must be highly driven to achieve results and aggressively identify and solve problems that can impact the scheduled delivery of products that meet customer requirements. Must be capable of identifying root cause issues affecting the program and define and implement corrective/mitigation actions.
· Must be accustomed to effectively dealing with unforeseen crises with quick analysis and decisive action.
· Provides after-hours fourth tier support on a rotational basis. Coordinates activities with the service organization.
Qualifications:
• Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent. Masters degree desired.
• 5+ years experience in software development industry.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Ingres, Oracle, SQL Anywhere database systems.
• Demonstrated ability in query reporting tools such as Cleverpath, Inetsoft, Crystal Reports, Cognos and Oracle Discoverer. Experienced in developing complex stored procedures and views.
• Knowledge of Visual Basic and Advanced VB scripting. Knowledge of Java is highly desired.
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and technologies.
• Must have strong knowledge of data relationships, data normalization. Knowledge of MetaData concepts, data warehousing, and dimensional modeling is desired.
• Healthcare IT software industry experience is highly desired.
• Highly process oriented and strong background in various system/software development life cycles/methodologies.
• Experience with various configuration management systems such as source-safe, version manager, clearcase, etc.. Experience with other software workflow tools.
• Ability to reduce an overwhelming amount of information into a few salient issues to focus on. The ability to prioritize the most relevant from all other issues.
• Must be a self starter with the initiative to follow through on programs/projects and work with all levels of users as well as have the ability to coordinate efforts both inside and outside of the division.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and in successfully completing programs/projects while also serving as a key individual technical contributor.
• Places great value on continuous learning and building knowledge of software /IT technologies within the organization.
• Believes in her/his ability to successfully take on new and difficult challenges, question the status quo, and take risks.
• Very effective oral and written communication skills.
